So I’m slicing up a baguette today and counting as I go. Yes, I count everything, Always have, always will. If there’s something to be counted, you can bet I am…even activities during which you couldn’t imagine my mind could go elsewhere, it has and I’m counting.
So as I was saying I was slicing and counting and a wonderful, happy thought occurred to me: 38 slices equals 76 chances for a Sourdough Smiley to appear! Pretty good odds. Can’t remember the last loaf where I didn’t find a Smiley.
Wait, that’s not quite true. When I was interviewed by CBS, I brought a loaf of along. “Ruth, would you mind putting down that loaf of bread during the interview?” I explained how I always find a Smiley or several in every loaf. Started slicing and the camera zoomed in…slice, slice, slice…no Smiley. It wasn’t until after the interviewers had gone home, when I went to pop a slice in the toaster that I saw a great Smiley in the heel. Sneaky little Smiley. Maybe he was just a little shy (I know the whole interview/camera thing had me a bit freaked.)
Back to what I was saying: Isn’t it great just knowing that there are that many Smileys just waiting to be noticed. Kind of like there are that many kind acts just waiting to be acknowledged.
Anticipating happiness makes its arrival all the better!
Smile. Be Happy.
Ruth
