Christmas Lights Day
Christmas is the season
for kindling the fire
of hospitality in the hall,
the genial flame
of charity in the heart.
~Washington Irving
Over on a month full of Smiley Silliness it’s Phony Smile Day. Feel free to flash your pearly whites at every opportunity. Did you know that smiling, even when your mood is low, helps you to feel better. There’s a lot of science showing that the very act of smiling perks you up because your brain gets feedback from your face! Cool, huh?
It’s the first day of Art Lovers’ Week and the start of both Art Month and Neighbor Month. How about making some art for your neighborhood. My favorite public art is that which is made without permission or a jury process or application. Just someone deciding to make and share art! To my mind, that’s the coolest.
It’s also Pie Day. But wait, wasn’t that Thursday when all across America everyone was eating pie? I might actually vote that every day should be Pie Day!
Happiest of days for the birthday boys and girls for today. That’d be Bette Midler (1945), Lou Rawls (1933), Sarah Silverman (1970), Richard Prior (1940), Janelle Monae (1985), and Mr. Peanut (1925). I met one of these birthday peeps, several times, years ago. He wore more cologne than anyone I’ve ever been around.
It may or may not be Rosa Parks Day. Her birthday was February 4th. But Rosa Parks Day is celebrated both other birthday and on today December 1.
Today we also celebrate the debut of one of my favorite games. Good old Scrabble made its debut this day in 1948. I love it as a board game and I love it online. As soon as I finish here and click “post,” I’ll be heading over to check into the many Scrabble games I’m playing via Facebook.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
