The Birthday
of the
Hula Hoop,
1963
I advise you to say
your dream is possible
and then overcome
all inconveniences,
ignore all the hassles
and take a running leap
through the hoop,
even if it is in flames.
~ Les Brown
In today’s Smiley picture, that’s a hula hoop which forms the smile. Recently discovered why I could no longer hula hoop. I’d been using a kiddie sized hh. All I needed was one scaled up to match my grown up size. Wow, did we have fun hula hooping!
Today we celebrate a holiday I wish everyone could get behind. Sorry, nothing lofty like World Peace. Just something dear to my heart. It’s Wear a Name Tag Day. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone did? Every day?! Funny thing, it’s Wear a Name Tag Day again on the 11th. My subtle attempts to make it a fashion are clearly working!
Happy birthday wishes go out to magician Penn Jillette (1955), half of the duo of Penn and Teller, the talkative half. When is his partner’s birthday? Nobody knows, he not talking. Other birthdays falling on this day are Andy Gibb (1958), Rex Harrison (1908), and Jack Cassidy (1927). I know. A bunch of old guys. Again. Well, I’m old–I look at these online lists of birthdays and struggle to know who many of the people even are. And since it’s also Indian Food Day I’d like to invite you ll out for some yummy Baingan Bharta.
I think I’ll make taking an Indian Food Cooking Class a priority. Funny how simply deciding you’re going to do something often is all it takes to get it done! Going to go Google it now! How fun!
It is also Cheese Doodle Day. I think that’s a snack but the image that popped into mind was someone drawing pictures on a scrap of paper with a block of cheddar.
BTW, the Smileys on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see in the Daily Smiley. There we celebrate the beginning of Words Matter Week.
