Today we say happy birthday to the Godfather of Soul, the one and only James Brown (1933). Now there’s a singer I wish I’d seen before he left this Earth! When he died in 2006, I decided to make a point of going to the shows of aging musicians, before it is too late. I jokingly refer to this as my Before They Kick the Bucket List.

It is also Hug Your Cat Day. What with 4 cats in my life, it is always Hug a Cat Day! And if you love the cats in your life, refrain from playing the Tuba, even though it is Tuba Day. I imagine there’s not many cats fond of the tuba.
May 3rd is also NPR Day. Check out Spontaneous Smiley featured on NPR’s Picture Show Blog. I’ve loved and listened to NPR as long as I can remember. I was certainly thrilled to see my little Spontaneous Smiley featured on the NPR website.
It being NPR Day and Smile Month, I figured it’s the perfect day to encourage you to check out the Tavis Smiley Show on NPR. You’ll be glad you did. I’ve followed his career for years–and not just because of his last name! I had the good fortune to meet him last year. Here’s the picture. I chickened out about asking him to jump with me. Maybe next time!

It’s Lumpy Rug Day. Honest. I couldn’t make this stuff up! What next, Peeling Paint Day? I only mention it, because I do, of course, have a Peeling Paint Smiley Face.
