Bamboo Day
Notice that the stiffest tree
is most easily cracked,
while the bamboo or willow
survives by bending with the wind.
~ Bruce Lee
One that struck me as particularly funny for today was Stay Home With Your Kids All Day Day. Didn’t a whole lot of kids just start back to school this week? Seems like playing hooky in the first week might be frowned upon.
More appropriate is it’s Ice Cube Day and Mosquito Day. The first I understand, but celebrating the mosquito is akin to throwing a party for the flu or a commemorating poison oak with a postage stamp . . . BTW, see Ice Cube Smiley over on our AUGUST calendar of a month full of Smiley Silliness.
Please take a moment to chill and enjoy an ice cube filled glass of lemonade today. You guessed it; it’s also Lemonade Day! Supposedly lemonade made its debut on this day in 1630 in Paris.
As our summer draws to an end and we turn our attention to the approach of fall, try to take a little time for the things you know you’ll miss once the weather turns cold–kite flying, swimming, bike riding, popsicles, and walking with a balloon clutched in your hand. The last one I mention especially as it is Balloon Day. This Balloon Smiley is in the Smiley book.
Today we send birthday wishes to Isaac Hayes (1942) and Al Roker (1954). Just 39 more years and Al can announce his own 100th birthday!
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
