Won’t You Be
My Neighbor Day
“If you could only sense
how important you
are to the lives of those you meet;
how important you can be
to the people
you may never even dream of.
There is something of yourself
that you leave at every meeting
with another person.”
~Fred Rogers
everybody’s favorite neighbor.
Today’s holiday was created to honor birthday boy (and quoted neighbor) Mr. Rogers (1928). I bet he liked having his birthday land on the Vernal Equinox. He’s the kind of guy who’d have noticed. To be specific Spring begins at exactly 3:28 pm PST this afternoon. This is the exact moment the length of the day is the same as the length of the night. So, happy first day of Spring from Fred and from me!
BTW, the daily emailer has a different House Smiley. Check it out by signing up. There are Smileys all over houses, and not just on the people living there.
Back in 1969, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married on this day and began their famous Bed-In for Peace.
And just for grins, here’s a Smiley video in honor of Niagra Falls Day. I was cruising the channels late one night and got sucked into watching a daring, and successful, rescue of a man who realized he didn’t want to jump. Watching, I was hoping this poor guy would be ok and that no rescuers would get hurt, when I see a SMILEY in the snow bank looking right at the guy. I’m not even kidding! Crazy, huh? Maybe he saw the Smiley. With a Smiley in attendance, it was bound to turn out OK!
It is also Be a Vegetarian for a Day. Being a vegetarian is one of the things an individual can do to help slow the progress of Climate Change. I bet some of you are rolling your eyes and thinking, “Sure, Ruth.” But think, if even 10% of the planet’s humans gave up meat…or if meat eaters would decrease their meat consumption by 10 or 20 or even 50%, the effect would be huge. Be a Vegetarian Day is also sometimes called, The Great American Meat Out.
Check out all the different Smileys, holidays and quotes over on a Month of Smiley Silliness. Today’s is Goof Off All Day Day. I am so on it!
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
