August 5
Green Peppers Day
A guy walks into the doctor’s office.
A banana stuck in one of his ears,
a bell pepper in the other ear,
and a carrot stuck in one nostril.
The man says,
“Doc, this is terrible.
What’s wrong with me?”
The doctor says,
“Well, first of all,
you need to eat more sensibly.”
It’s also Underwear Day. I’m always saying Smileys are everywhere. I double-dog-dare you to go check our AUGUST calendar of a month full of Smiley Silliness to see if I ever found an Underwear Smiley.
American Bandstand went national this day in 1957. Additionally in 1930 the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong, was born on this day. Today we also celebrate Beer Day and Pony Day. I’m imaging Neil Armstrong in his underwear, drinking a beer to cool his throat from a hot, hot pepper he’d eaten while doing The Pony listening to American Bandstand. I think I’ll make a picture of that. I’ll need to include the Statue of Liberty in the meme because on this day in 1884, the first cornerstone for my favorite public monument was set. BTW, read my tweaking of Emma Lazarus’ poem on the Statue of Liberty to fit my preschool.
Other birthdays celebrated today include Daniel Dae Kim (1968), Jesse Williams (1981), and Maureen McCormick (1956).
Plus as is often the case, just for grins, you get a different Pepper Smiley in the Smiley-a-Day emailer and another on the monthly calendar.
