September 22
Chimney
Safety Day
I have discovered
the secret of happiness
– it is work,
either with the hands or the head.
The moment I have something to do,
the draughts are open
and my chimney draws,
and I am happy.
~ John Burroughs
Today some people, not me, celebrate White Chocolate Day. What is white chocolate anyway? I’m guessing it’s wax plus sugar. Not a thing to do with chocolate other than a similar consistence. If that stuff can be called chocolate, maybe we should call Noxema, white peanut butter.
It’s also Take a Walk Day over on our September calendar of a month full of Smiley Silliness. No coincidence that it is also Be Car Free Day.
Happy birthday to the Ice Cream Cone which made its debut in 1906. The Bandaide also debuted on this day (1921).
Human birthdays include Joan Jett (1958), Andrea Bocelli (1958), and Bonnie Hunt (1961).
A couple of big eared critters are celebrated today. Can you guess which? It’s Elephant Day and Rabbit Day.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
