Life is like an onion.
You peel it off
one layer at a time,
and sometimes you weep.
~ Carl Sandberg
Man ‘o’ man, do I love onions! I’ll put onions on just about anything! Like ’em cooked, raw, fried, sautéed, baked, roasted, caramelized…you name it, I like it! When someone tells me they don’t like onions ( a rare occurrence), I admit I’m skeptical (a holiday from yesterday). How can anyone not like onions?! I figure they must never have tasted an onion. That’s the only way. Did you know that some orders of Buddhist monks don’t eat onions? Dudes, you might want to rethink that; it can’t be helping recruiting efforts!
It’s also Dessert Day over on the October calendar of a month full of Smiley Silliness. Might I suggest a Chocolate Covered Insect for dessert? You guessed it, we’re celebrating that day too. Not to sound like a braggart, but I did eat a fried grasshopper when I was in the Philippines last summer volunteering with Operation Smile and with no chocolate to make it more palatable. That trip included a lot of fun mixed in with all the work! I have so much gratitude, that their work, is now a part of my story.
Today we send birthday wishes to Usher (1978), Roger Moore (1927), and Ralph Lauren (1939). Three very good looking men! Usher, here’s to hoping you manage to stay as handsome as your fellow birthday boys, when you get to be their age!
It’s Be Bald and Be Free Day. You might be beginning to wonder if my having a bald husband is leading me to make up days in his honor. But, nope. These are just things I find noodling around on the internet.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
Plus as is often the case, just for grins, you get a different Onion Smiley in the Smiley-a-Day emailer. This optimist says: onions are full of smiles, not tears!
DID I MISS ANY GOOFY, SILLY, UPBEAT HOLIDAYS??
