December 14
Big Ears Day
Fear is the static
that prevents me
from hearing myself.
~ Samuel Butler
If today’s observance means people are honoring you for your big ears, you might want to learn about the Big Ears Festival.
Additionally we celebrate the debut of both the Tilt-a-Whirl (1926) and Miniature Golf (1929) today. Seems December 14th was a good day for fun. And for something a tad more modern, it’s Shareware Day. I know less what that is than I do the other two.
Dont’t miss tonight’s full moon. Bundle up, it’s mighty cold outside.
It is also Delivery Truck Appreciation Day. That’s perfect considering how many times those trucks have been showing up at my house lately. Who else has completely changed their holiday shopping habits incorporating online purchasing? This video about a kid who loved the UPS Truck made me smile (and tear up just a little).
Today we tip our hats to a couple of mammal friends, the Horse and the Monkey. Funny, re-reading that line it occurs to me that the horse and the monkey are both animals that humans put hats on.
Birthday. Birthday. Who has a birthday? Patty Duke (1946), plus once again, some other people I don’t recognize. Not watching TV surely does leave one out of the loop. Oh yeah, also the fabulous Judy Dench (1934). Judy turns 80 today!
We’re celebrating Accept Your Limits Day over on a month full of Smiley Silliness, where all the Smileys and holidays are different than the ones you see here on the Daily Smiley.
