January 3
Hot Soup Day
Soup is a lot like family.
Each ingredient
enhances the others;
each batch has
its own characteristics;
and it needs time
to simmer to reach full flavor.

Over on a month full of Smiley Silliness it’s the beginning of Someday We’ll Laugh About This, Week. I always say, go ahead and laugh about it now. Why wait!!!
On this day in 1987 Aretha Franklin was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Crazy that it took 5 years for a woman to make it. Crazy and wrong!
It is also Chocolate Covered Cherry Day. I’ll leave that one to all of you. I like my chocolate unadulterated.
Maybe today’s birthday celebrants will want cherries instead of cake. How about it, Danica McKeller (1975) and J.R.R. Tolkien (1892)? Also debuting today is the drinking straw (not good for soup). Any guess when the straw was patented? Go find out here.
Lots happening for today, but my favorite celebration for January 3rd is the Festival of Sleep. I am so, so on board with that. And, I’m not alone. Lately there have been lots of scientific studies saying more sleep = happier living. So if it’s bedtime, walk away from the computer!
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
Plus, as is often the case, the Soup Smiley you get in the Smiley-a-Day emailer is different from what you see here.
