Water Your
Garden Day
Remember that children,
marriages, and flower gardens
reflect the kind of care they get.
H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Today’s holiday will NOT be celebrated in California! Serious drought! We’ve got unwashed cars, dead gardens, and last night’s bath water in the tub to use to flush the toilet.
See all the pennies on the bricks in the Smiley photo? This photo is of my front steps. I’ve been scattering pennies for good luck for years and years.
It’s also the birthday of the bra. On this day in 1887 the first U.S. patent for a bra was filed. But ancient civilizations as far back as 1400 had variations on the theme. The Bra Ball is a wonderfully whimsical sculpture by my good friend Emily Duffy constructed of bras hooked one to the next to form a gigantic ball.
Today we say happy birthday to Mel Blanc (1908), Wynonna Judd (1964), and Idina Menzel (1971). I’ll toast you with a mint julep for Mint Julep Day.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley, there we celebrate Water Your garden Day, something we’re finally allowed to do here in California after 5 years of drought.
