Wild Flower Week
All my life I have tried
to pluck a thistle and
plant a flower,
wherever the flower would grow,
in thought and mind.

Today we start celebrating Wild Flower Week on a month full of Smiley Silliness. Native plants are blooming every where! Maybe pick a few for the teachers in your life.
Why? Because it’s Teacher Appreciation Day. Little Hannah at my school brought flowers she’d picked and put into a vase which she’d made for us. A soda bottle, covered with paper, glue, and heartfelt scribbles, never looked so good! We did indeed feel appreciated! Hannah’s the one who has started calling me Grandma lately. Not sure if I appreciate that!
On this day in 1970, the last Beatles album was released. Can you guess the title? Here’s a hint, their long and winding road came to an end.
Today is also Play Tennis Day over on the monthly calendar. I have fond memories of playing tennis, poorly, during PE with my high school friend Renee. What I liked most about PE, was my friends. To quote birthday boy Gary Cooper (1901), “The only achievement I am really proud of is the friends I have made.” Not too shabby, birthday boy.
Other birthday falling on today are David Tomlinson (1917, he was the dad in the movie Mary Poppins), Johannes Brahms (1833), and children’s author Michael Rosen (1946).
BTW, the Smileys on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see in the Daily Smiley.
Plus, as is often the case, the Flower Smiley you get in the Smiley-a-Day emailer is different from what you see here.
