The Birthday of
The Hula Hoop (1964)
I advise you to say
your dream is possible and
then overcome all inconveniences,
ignore all the hassles and
take a running leap through the hoop,
even if it is in flames.
~ Les Brown
For good measure, wear pink today to honor flamingoes. Honest; I promise I didn’t make that up. It really is National Flamingo Appreciation Day and thus Wear Pink Day. However, it is not International Flamingo Day. Go figure.
It’s not only Wear Pink Day but also Paint Something Purple Day. That’s handy. If you get pink paint on your purple clothes it’ll be ok. Pink and Purple go well together.
If I had a dog, I’d take it to work today for Take Your Dog To Work Day. I’m betting we never see Take Your Cat To Work Day, as I have a feeling cats wouldn’t cooperate. Luckily I do a lot of work from home so my cats are my coworkers every day.
Today we say happy birthday to Randy Jackson (1956) and Alan Turing (1912). In case you don’t know, Alan Turing was an amazing mathematician and inventor. His creation of a machine to break the codes used by the Germans in WWII, is thought to be the single biggest contribution made by anyone, to end the war. Turing is the subject of the new play Pink Milk which I had the good fortune to see in Chicago.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
