Don’t Fence
Me In Day
A quote about freedom seem appropriate for this holiday. It’s a quote from
one of my favorite kind souls. That it happens to be his birthday, all the better.
For to be free is not merely
to cast off one’s chains,
but to live in a way that respects
and enhances the freedom of others.
~ Nelson Mandela (born this day in 1918)
Wishing a happy birthday to Wendy Williams (1964). I’m not much of a talk show fan, but she does MMS (Make Me Smile, it’s the new LOL). Also celebrating are Richard Branson (1950), Red Skelton (1913), Margo Martingale (1951), the amazing Martha Reeves (1941) and the wise Nelson Mandela (1918). And if cartoon characters can have birthdays, then light a candle for Tony the Tiger (1952).
May all the birthday peeps enjoy a bowl of ice cream on this, National Ice Cream Day.
Happy Railroad Day to all the other train lovers out there. My dad was a big train guy and so I was raised loving trains. I passed this love on to my son.
Today also commemorates the historic 1906 earthquake in my beloved San Francisco. On a happier note, it was on this day, 70 years later, that the first ever perfect 10 was given out at the Olympics (1976) to the amazing Nadia Comaneci.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley.
Plus as is often the case, just for grins, you get a different Fence Smiley in the Smiley-a-Day emailer.
