Cyclops Day
It is only with the heart
that one can see rightly;
what is essential
is invisible to the eye.
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery
It’s also You Light Up My Life Day. I’ll readily admit, I loved that song. I know. Dorky. Sappy. Just like I am.
Additionally, it’s Banana Split Day (See it on a month full of Smiley Silliness.) and Chocolate Ice Cream Day. But everyone knows, chocolate ice cream absolutely does not belong in a banana split. Please, people!
Happy birthday Prince (1958), so sorry we lost you this year. The first time I went out and left my first baby with a babysitter (well, Grandma Joy) was to see Prince at the Cow Palace for his Purple Rain Tour. Oy, remembering that makes me feel old. Oy, remembering that also makes me feel lucky! BTW, it is also my Dad’s birthday. Yep, Prince and my dad–like peas in a pod. Not.
Speaking of Prince, today should be Paint Something Purple Day. Instead that one falls later in the month on June 23.
The Eensie Weensie Spider was copyrighted on this day in 1946. Some people still can’t figure out how to get their fingers to do that oppositional spider climb. I always laugh watching grown ups trying and failing at that. We preschool teachers studied that one, but not ’til grad school.
BTW, the Smileys and holidays on a month full of Smiley Silliness are all different than the ones you see here on the website’s Daily Smiley. Today we celebrate Banana Split Day.
Plus, as is often the case, the Cyclops Smiley you get in the Smiley-a-Day emailer is different from what you see here. Of course I have more than one!
